PT Residency and Fellowship Programs

Physical Therapy Residency and Fellowship Programs

At Austin Sports Medicine, we pride ourselves on being a learning institution for the next generation of healthcare providers. We are dedicated to providing high-quality healthcare services while fostering the growth and development of future healthcare professionals. We believe in the importance of hands-on learning and are proud to offer opportunities for students, residents, and fellows to train under experienced practitioners in our clinics.

Physical Therapy Residencies and Fellowships with Austin Sports Medicine

Austin Sports Medicine is proud to be a Network Clinic Partner for the Institute of Athlete Regeneration (IAR) and is a host site for all Austin-based continuing education courses.

IAR Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency and Fellowship in Sports and Orthopedic Manual Therapy are accredited by the American Board of Physical Therapy Residency and Fellowship Education, a division of the American Physical Therapy Association.

The Residency program offers a combination of intense didactic and clinical mentoring experiences designed to advance the clinician’s skill in examination, clinical reasoning, and treatment of the orthopedic and sports population with a strong emphasis on manual therapy applications.

The Fellowship curriculum is based on the Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy Description of Advanced Specialty Practice and is elevated to the application of the athletic and active populations. Upon graduation, clinicians will be prestigiously recognized and credentialed as Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists (FAAOMPT).

Benefits of Working With A Student

  • 2 is better than 1: Students are always supervised by a licensed healthcare professional, meaning the patient benefits from the expertise and guidance of two healthcare professionals instead of just one.
  • Fresh perspective: Students bring new and innovative approaches to the treatment of conditions, which can provide a fresh perspective and help to identify new solutions.
  • More time: Students often have more time to spend with patients compared to licensed providers, which allows them to focus on individualized care and provide more attention to detail.
  • Current knowledge: Students are typically up-to-date with the latest research, techniques, and technologies in the field, which means that they can offer the most current and effective treatment options available.

All our current providers were once students, and we are committed to teaching students about compassionate healthcare. All students are thoroughly trained and vetted as part of our interview and onboarding process. We understand that having students involved in your care may raise questions or concerns. Your comfort and privacy are our top priorities, and we will always respect your preferences regarding student involvement in your treatment.

Student Clinical Rotations

Our clinical rotations are designed to provide students with a comprehensive learning experience that will dramatically improve their clinical skills. During your rotation, you will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic integrated model of orthopedic and sports medicine. Under our experienced staff’s supervision, you will help care for a variety of adult and youth clients including high school, collegiate and professional athletes.

At Austin Sports Medicine, students can participate in Grand Rounds, staff in-services, independent learning, and one-on-one learning throughout their internship.

How to Apply
